The problem with this book is I don’t know how to review it for you. Because the plot twist at the end changes the entire way you’ll read the first part of the book. I’m going to struggle to do this spoiler-free, because the biggest spoiler is the bit that really made this book so amazing. But, for you, I’ll try…
At first, Amy definitely had the more exciting point of view. Nick was rude, and just didn’t seem to care that his wife was missing. Amy was this scared little girl, who just adored her husband. He didn’t try to fix the marriage; she did all these little things, and he never paid attention. It got to me that he wouldn’t turn up to events, or he’d ignore her problems. Then, of course, she disappears. Well done you Nick, because she’s not coming back for you if you’re going to treat her like that. I did find the investigation interesting, because I really had no idea what could have happened to Amy. None of the clues added up. Could she have killed herself? Been kidnapped by one of her many stalkers that Nick discovered? Could Nick have done it without realising, or be lying to us through the book? I JUST DON’T KNOW, AND IT WAS STRESSING ME OUT.
Then, the plot twist. Holy freaking Jesus on a boat.
AND I CAN’T TELL YOU WHAT IT WAS BECAUSE I WANT YOU TO READ IT. UGH.
It really does change everything you think you’ve just read. The plot twist is about what happened to Amy (was it something I speculated before? Who knows…). And everything you read in the first half has been changed in your mind.
HAVE I MENTIONED HOW SHOCKED I WAS.
From there, I couldn’t put down the book. There were a lot of things still left unanswered (like how in hell it actually happened). Plus, of course, Amy wasn’t back yet. Would she ever return?
Oh, and then the book goes and ends on a cliffhanger! You can sympathise with me here; cliffhangers are so very frustrating, but at the same time work really well. Well, that’s what this whole book was like. That same frustration, wanting to throw the book at the wall type feeling. Really, it had to end on that cliffhanger. It wouldn’t have worked otherwise.
I know this review didn’t tell you much, so here’s something I can tell you; READ IT. Get your hands on this book as soon as humanly possible, hibernate in your house for as many days as it takes, and devour this absolute gem of a book
