Because what’s summer without getting overwhelmed by reading challenges, right? Well, I’m actually only signing up for two (so far). The first is called Clear A Shelf, and runs through December, and the second, Dumbledore’s Army, runs in January.
Clear A Shelf:
This is being run by the lovely Booked Up And Bossy, and it’s all about reading those books you own and never actually read. Don’t we all need this challenge in our lives? It runs through the entire month of December, and as I plan on frantically reading all month to catch up on my Goodreads challenge, it’s perfect!
OWNED: Anything you own before December 1st is fair game. The name of the challenge comes from my intention to read a whole shelf’s worth of books.
TBR: Any book already on your established (however you establish it) To Be Read (TBR) list as of December 1st regardless of whether you own it or not.
So, I’m counting anything I own, and anything that’s part of a series or from an author I’ve already read. This is way, I’m avoiding too much random library reading, and also adding to one of my Goodreads challenges I’m partcipating in (don’t, okay?). I want to read 5 books for this challenge!
Diversity Bingo: Yes, it’s another December challenge. Leave me alone, okay? In November I read 8 books, so I’ve decided 12 isn’t unreasonable for a month with no school. IT PROBABLY IS THOUGH, AHH.
Anyway.
I want to read five books for this challenge, almost entirely just so I can get a row. I’ll be doing the top line, and from left to right I have planned Cress by Marissa Meyer, Symptoms of Being Human by Jeff Garvin, Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz (as a poc hero, not super), and I’m stuck for the last one!
And Goodreads stuff…
Yeah, I like to get involved in the Goodreads challenges, and forget I sign up for other ones. This month, I’m doing two; one about finishing challenges, hence the rules for readathon #1. The other one is a little more complicated. It’s four separate readathons over four separate weeks, and each has its own set of categories. For example, my week one looks like this:
Readathon One
1. Read a graphic novel: Username: Evie
2. Read a book that’s been on your TBR for over a year:
3. Read a nonfiction book:
4. Read a book by a favorite author: Cress
5. Read a book set in your town/city/state/region: Sabotage: The Diary of Rowan Webb, Auckland, 1985
6. Read a new release (October-December releases): No Holding Back
Yeah, I should work on some more overlap… But we’ll see what happens!
So, my mental breakdown…
I mean, it’s inevitable, isn’t it? Why do I think summer gives me endless time, when I actually want to leave my house and make videos etc? You know what, I’ll give it all a go, win and none of them, but still have lots of books read. Ideally.
This is the point where I’d ask what you’ve signed up for, but do I really want to know? It’ll just make me want to sign up for more… Let me know what you plan on reading, though!
Good luck!

I’ve actually just recently created a read-a-thon, but I’m still planning the finer details, and am only planning to launch it next year. If you’d like to find out more information, you can go here: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/205273-all-things-happy-read-a-thon
If you’d like to join the group, you’re more than welcome to, I have done a post as to what I plan on doing, and will be doing updates as to the progress. : )

Good luck. On the readathon I had a book for TBR for over a year and it turned out horrible and I had to DNF at 26%. How are you coming along so far??

Oh no, that’s so frustrating! I’m on my third book this month, which is great, but so far only one that I actually own…

Good luck to you indeed! There are so many different challenges on this December and I’m so tempted to get involved in at least one of them – but I’ve decided to be strong and not participate in any! I do love me a read-a-thon but I want to clear a specific set of books this December so I’ve decided a read-a-thon’s only going to distract me. But again, good luck to you!

Thank you! I’m so impressed you aren’t doing any, I struggle to resist. Hopefully you get all that reading done in December 🙂
