13 Reasons Why – it’s just SO GOOD

Yes, that’s right, I jumped on the bandwagon and binged all of 13 Reasons Why. There’s a whole lot of hype around it, but do I care? It lived up to every bit of hype in my opinion. And, because I’m completely unoriginal, here’s 13 thoughts on this show…

  1. I felt for every single character, which is extremely rare. Sure, I hate Courtney, but I saw where she was coming from at the same time. Bryce is the exception, I despise him with all of my being, but I really understood every other character, despite their obvious flaws
  2. Also, there seemed like just the right amount. At first, I found myself getting a bit mixed up with everyone – the sporty boys all blended into one. But I got my head around them all pretty fast, which I guess is part of them all seeming so real!
  3. I cried SO MUCH, another thing that’s pretty rare, especially for tv shows. Clay’s tape and the final tape were the worst ones. I wept and I wept and I wept, and I have zero shame in admitting that. How could you possibly not cry?patrick-sad
  4. Clay was just so slow? I binged that show so fast, and I generally struggle to sit through entire movies because I need a break. I watched 8 episodes in 2 days with this! And Clay, he just kept confronting people about what they’d done before he knew all the info, and taking breaks all the time, and… Dude, just listen to the tapes, please!
  5. The suicide scene was too much. I’ve heard it not only encourages copy-cats, which is obviously terrible, but it was really graphic too. I couldn’t watch, or listen, and what I did see is one of those things that sticks in my head. So, please, be careful of that if you’re thinking of watching the show! It really is terrible
  6. Hannah was incredibly selfish. I got it, to an extent, but only in the last few tapes. A lot of her reasons seemed really petty and small, and I think it’s the worst thing you can possibly do to someone to blame them for your suicide. That’s a personal choice, one that’s to do with mental health more than anything, and so the premise of the show was a bit sick in my opinion
  7. Theyre making a season two, and its a blantant money grab. I dont want a blantant money grab, I want a book that has been turned into something beautiful!
  8. It opens up a conversation. One of my friends was pretty affected by it, saying some stuff brought up negative memories, and although we didnt have a deep and meaningful right then and there, it was good to have that conversation starter, or at the very least just something I should keep an eye on
  9. It makes you think, about not only the main problem of Hannah and suicide, but the fact that everyone has their own stuff going on, and you should really just take a second to think about what you might not know, instead of assuming you can get inside the heads of everyone else
  10. It has a damn beautiful soundtrack. Night We Met, anyone?Image result for night we met
  11. Its so powerful it left a void in my heart. Here I am, weeks after, still writing this post because I still havent managed to find the something that could fill that void. There was one book, but it just didnt have that same impact. And when you obsess over something that much, it must be something impressive
  12. Its nice and short, so for someone with a short attention span, you can binge watch the entire show pretty fast, without it consuming more than 13 hours of your life
  13. There just arent enough words. Honestly, I dont know how to explain how much this show affected me. It was bloody brilliant, and I dont think I can say anything you havent heard. I just have to make sure I have a post on here that helps you realise how madly in love I am

And now, we vent and we cry and we make friends in the comments! Are you obsessed (yet)? Or have you avoided it because of how problematic it is? Who is your favourite? Or your least favourite? Let me know everything! Image result for 13 reasons why quotes

  1. I’m halfway through & I do want to continue, it’s just finding the time to do so. So far I’m kinda just okay with the show and that’s probably half the reason why I haven’t continued. I know that it gets better, or so I’ve been told, it’s just getting through it all. I agree with you Clay is VERY slow at listening to the tapes and that is annoying, and blaming people for your suicide is also a really big deal, like why would you do that to someone? This post has made me want to continue so I can be done with it!

    1. Ooh, thats really interesting! I feel like I clicked with it really fast, but I know I got more invested as it went on, it definitely does get better. Harder to watch, but better. Let me know how you find it once youre done! 🙂

      1. So many people just blew through it, and I just can’t seem to. I’ve gotten through a few more episodes and every time I’m like are high schoolers really this mean? I’m hoping by the end of the week I’ll be finished, but that’s just wishful thinking on my part!

      2. haha, that’s how I feel & I’m at episode seven, Marcus’s tape. To think I thought he was a decent human… I can’t remember her name, but the girl who was getting close to Clay, I had a feeling she had a tape, now I can’t wait to watch her episode. I’ve been really lazy in trying to do any catch up. Maybe if I find time tonight I’ll knock another one.

      3. Yeah, its so strange making judgements, then seeing Hannahś side to everything. I actually re-watched the first episode today! I wanted to watch more but Ive decided to binge Riverdale instead haha 🙂

      4. I wish I could binge watch things unfortunately I never have the time! I really want to watch stranger things. But what I recently finished (and am waiting for season 4) is The Affair. Which is exactly what it’s about but it’s insane, like I have no idea how to describe it other than insane haha. Plus each episode has two parts so each main character gets to tell their story pretty much.

      5. Yeah, thats the good thing about such short series, I can procrastinate my other responsibilities a bit! I really want to watch Stranger Things too, I’ve heard so many good things. I haven’t heard of the Affair, but it sounds fantastic. I should watch it next 🙂

      6. Is it hard for you to travel within New Zealand? I’m sorry if that’s an odd question, I’ve never traveled to that side of the world yet, but I plan to! And I want to do something inside Canada since it’s our big 150th birthday & we’re making a very big deal out of it!

      7. As a student I don’t have a whole lot of money, which is frustrating! And to get to the South Island (because I’m in the North) it can be difficult, having to pay for flights/ferry over there. Little roadtrips are all good though 🙂 Ooh, that’s so cool! I can just imagine how overly patriotic Canada would get hahaha

      8. Ohh, I feel you. Being a student, as much as it did have it’s benefits, it sucked because it limited me to money, and my part-time summer job was not going to pay for a trip. It’s taken me a few years to finally be able to start affording trips. I believe you’ll get there! I’m sure that the trips within the country are expensive too, like for me it’s cheaper to fly to the USA instead of within Canada, which sounds ridiculous I know! Haha oh yeah, we’ve already started and our birthday is July 1… haha! 😛

      9. Yeah, I definitely love being a student (so far), but I’m struggling not be able to afford anything! And flatting next year will just make it even worse… That’s so weird about the prices! I wonder why? For us, we’d be going to Australia as our next closest country, which is a fair bit away 🙂

      10. I sometimes wish I was still a student just to get the benefits and the cheaper prices on things. But man, I can only imagine, my brother is in the same situation since he’s moving out to go to school next year, and it is not cheap at all. I’m glad I had the option to stay at home.
I have yet to figure out why travelling in Canada is crazy expensive. Ah, so is travelling hard for you? I find it fascinating as you’re on the complete opposite side of the world! 🙂

      11. That’s true, and we’re not working, so we need those discounts desparately!
Trying to get anywhere overseas is insane, it costs $2000 ish both ways to fly to America? It’s insane, it’s so frustrating. And I don’t drive, so getting around here is hard, but it’s not too bad if you have a car

      12. I hear you, some of the discounts are actually really good too! Some are kinda lame.
Oh man. That is expensive! Then when I think about it, to fly to Australia is about the same 2000+, part of the reason I haven’t been to that side of the world yet. One day! Sometimes I think maybe I’ll just become a flight attendant and travel the world that way! 😛

      13. Exactly, it’s just that everywhere is so far away! I’m thinking about doing a semester abroad, that way I can stay in Europe for ages and travel as much as possible there 🙂 Or be a flight attendant, that sounds ideal! Earning through travelling which is ideal!

      14. A semester abroad sounds like so much fun! Plus travelling throughout Europe is super easy… or so I’m told, although when I was there you could get on a train and be in another country in hours, how cool?!
Haha, it’s the ideal life for sure!

      15. Yeah, exactly, that seems so crazy to me!! Just popping to another country for the weekend seems so strange, but in the best way. Good old Brexit though, might make it a bit harder…

      16. Right!? Like I hear people who do a small trip to Paris or Madrid and I’m like how is that a small trip?!?! haha.
Yeah, that. That whole ordeal is crazy, I hope it doesn’t make it harder to travel 😐

      17. Right?? Or people who “accidentally” catch the wrong train to Germany, it’s crazy. I’m hoping the sooner I go the easier it’ll be, but I know my friends with British passports are made about how much it’s going to affect their travel!
