Stopping the book reviews

A little while ago, I changed from being a book blog to a regular, everyday life sort of blog. I said at the time that I’d still be doing some book-related posts, and the plan was to keep on reviewing, but do other posts in between. The initial post was early September, and since then I’ve posted 3 reviews, and 12 other bookish posts. Now that there’s no more Exploring My Bookshelves, that number is only dropping! And I just can’t quite work out why, because there’s nothing in particular that I’ve done that’s made me want to stop reviewing.

I’ve definitely run out of ideas, in a way, because I did so many bookish posts, and I was posting every single day. It gets hard! When I was feeling very little inspiration though, Pile of books.jpgsurely a review is the perfect thing to post? I know what I thought, I don’t have to put huge amounts of effort into putting my feelings into words. I’ve tend to want to post reviews for more popular books, because yes, views matter to me, but there hasn’t been a shortage of popular books that I’ve been reading. I’ve been reading a lot, that isn’t the problem! In December in particular, with no school to bother me, I’ve been reading way more than I usually do. The list of un-reviewed books is really starting to get ridiculous… So what’s the problem??

Don’t think I’m going to come up with any conclusive answers in this post, because I’m really not. These aren’t rhetorical questions, I really don’t know what’s up. What I can say, though, is maybe I just need to give up on thinking I’m actually going to do a review. Realistically, it’s probably not going to happen. I’d rather do a post about books, or even a tag, instead of trying to put my thoughts into a review. The main benefit is being able to look back and remember what I thought, but I do write updates, and sometimes mini-reviews to get those points on Goodreads challenges. I write enough to remember if I want to carry on the series, or re-read it. And if I don’t remember, I’m never going to count it as a favourite… So what’s the point?

This is me being tired of reviews

It just feels strange running an active Goodreads account, and being an ex book blogger, and not writing any reviews. I’m hoping I can work out some sort of a system for what’s worth reviewing and what’s not. Or, if I can get it together, I could do sets of mini-reviews… If you have any advice, please let me know! I need the tips!

  1. Mini reviews sound like a good alternative! I’m planning to do a post like that to review some “meh” books I’ve read in September and they are ALL gay romances, so why not? Hahahaha
I think you definitely should write reviews if you want – books are still a part of your life and this blog is for your experiences, right? =) Do what makes you happy or helps you to feel good/better and the followers will feel it through your posts, I’m sure ❤ ❤

      1. You’re welcome! Another blogger gave me the idea, actually, when I complained about blogging anxiety regarding what to do with SO MANY LATE reviews, haha! ❤ I'm sure you'll eventually think of something that is both cool and totally you for the reviews situation!

  2. Mini reviews are great. I tend to write a post of 5 books that I haven’t been amazed with or haven’t finished. Still gives me the chance to publicly talk about the books without stumbling over a review.

    1. OMG I’ve been having the same situation. For a while there I wasn’t even book blogging because I felt like if I wasn’t reviewing, I shouldn’t be blogging. I absolutely love doing memes though. I’ve started a little thing (that I’ve only done once >.< ) where I review an entire series at once. I've also considered doing mini book reviews and I think that's what's going to work best for me.

      1. I know what you mean, even though that’s a ridiculous way to think! It’s part of why I’ve stopped calling myself a book blog, and now I’m just general life. Doing the whole series is a really good idea, I might try that 🙂

      1. Haha, don’t worry, I haven’t done it either! I have endless things that I’ve promised I’ll do and just leave them in the back of my brain with all my other ideas

  3. I am truly sorry that you have lost your inspiration to blog about books.

If you are looking for inspiration to get back into book blogging, and posting book reviews in particular, please stop by my page. I post 2 book reviews a week, and hopefully you can find something in them that will make you want to do book reviews again.
