There are two kinds of people (she says in her best Facebook status voice); those who plan, and those who wing it. Except, one line in, I’m going to contradict everything I’ve said, because I’m a strange mix of both.
Planning It
I like to know my plan for the week, as in what days I’m working, what days I’m going out, etc. Today, Wednesday is my blogging day, because it’s the first day I’ve had home in about a week. Friday is going to be my shopping day. If this changes, the world isn’t going to end, don’t worry! I don’t panic without a plan, I just quite like to have one. I also need a mix of busy and not being stressed. Today, like I said, I’m being productive, but not in a way that’s going to stress me out. I’ve planned it out so I can give myself a day to sleep in, but tomorrow I’m not going to freak out because I have a to-do list taller than me and spent a day doing nothing. (I did watch Monsters University though. It was really good).
For university next year, I’m going to have a little daily planner, a calendar, and I’ll probably use a variety of online things for lists and such. I’m going to know when my assessments are due weeks in advance, and even though I’ll procrastinate, at least I’ll know! If you’re going to invite me out, I need at least half a day. I’m not as bad as another friend of mine, who needs about a week, or he won’t come at all. But saying “do you want to go out RIGHT NOW?” can be a little bit stressful for me, depending on the person! Just time to sort myself out is okay; yes, I’ll go out this evening, but not in an hour. Maybe I need to relax a little more about stuff like that; it’d probably be a lot better for my mental health if I can move away from a structure!
Winging It
While my life is pretty organised, nothing else really is. I wrote out a plan for my YouTube videos for the rest of the month, because I had a whole lot of ideas, and really want to start getting into a proper schedule since I have the time to over my summer break. This is very rare though! This post is going to be scheduled, yes, but I didn’t know what I was going to write about until I started writing. The same goes for novel writing (oops), essay writing, filming (ish), etc etc. It’s generally a matter of “maybe something about planning?” and then the words come out, and we see what happens. Countless teachers have told me that planning an essay is so much better for my grade, but I find planning means I’m bored before I even start writing. The theme is “love conquers all.” I agree with the question. Let’s write!
People who wing everything, though, can be a bit much. My friends and I have finished high school this year, and some people don’t have a plan at all for next year. Maybe work and do some travel? I worry about these people, one in particular with very low self confidence, because I’m not sure if they’re going to do the great things they’re capable of. I know if I did the same, I’d just keep travelling, and I’d end up in a not very good job instead of going to uni and doing something I’m really going to love. Obviously, uni isn’t the best option for everyone, but why be a McDonalds worker when you can do something that’s going to make you so much happier? In this case, I feel like a plan would really benefit them, more than winging it would.
Basically…
I can do both! And I think its probably important to have a bit of a mixture, one isn’t necessarily better than the other. I mean, I’m far from perfect (in terms of this, I’m perfect in every other way), but I think I know how to improve!
Are you a planner or not? What do you think is better?
I am a partial planner. My lists are mainly, what I have to do, what I can do, what I can change and what I can leave to the last minute, lol … I’m also like you in that, I can’t just go and do something. I need time as well.

Haha, that’s a good plan! Even planning to procrastinate seems productive 🙂

I am a fan of planning ahead, but lately I’ve been winging it more. I really want to get back to being organized, because I seem to forget to do things. I’m actually looking for a great planner for the new year, but I haven’t found anything yet that matches my expectations.

Yeah, that’s definitely a problem! I’ve been looking on Pinterest and found a whole bunch of different pages to print of, or ways to design my own, and that might be easier than trying to buy something perfect 🙂

Yeah that might work.. I should look into that, thank you!

Like Napoleon once said ‘The best plans rarely survive first contact with the enemy!’ 😀 Or, as we used to say in the Air Force ‘The reason things aren’t going to plan is that there never was a plan in the first place’

I’m really not a planner. And when I do plan something, it never turns out as I planned it. 🙂

I definitely feel that! 🙂

I try to plan because otherwise I’ll just forget things like homework deadlines. Although it can be tedious to write it all down I think it’s better than being stressed when you find out you’ve forgotten homework!

Yeah, I definitely understand that! But then I could never be like some people who have something due on Friday, so break it up and plan which day they’re going to do each little bit, you know? 🙂

Nah, I couldn’t do that either. Too much planning. 😂

This is very interesting! I try to be a mix of both as well. I keep a planner for school and I’m trying to work on a blog schedule, but the rest of life can be a little disorganized sometimes. It just depends!

Yeah, school is definitely the thing that gets a bit hectic! Whatever works best for each little thing! I think being a mix is good 🙂
