Why Review When You Can Quote?

Guess who’s procrastinating writing book reviews again… This girl! So, instead of writing actual, meaningful reviews, I thought I’d leave you with some of the best quotes of the books I’ve been reading over the last little while. 

The first un-reviewed book I’ve read is Saint Anything by Sarah Dessen. This author is AMAZING, and I loved this book! This first one is just in general showing her amazingness. 

“The future was one thing that could never be broken, because it had not yet had the chance to be anything.”

This second one emphasised how amazing the friendship is between the girls in this book. 

“You only really fall apart in front of the people you know can piece you back together.”

And this third one made me think, as well as describing the situation with the brother really well. 

“You get used to people being a certain way; you depend on it. And when they surprise you, for better or worse, it can shake you to your core.”

The second book I’ve read is Delirium by Lauren Oliver. This first quote is basically the basis of the really unique idea behind the book, so of course I had to include it in my list. 

“I love you. Remember. They cannot take it”

This second one was perfect for Lena in the second half of the book. In the first half, she was pretty weak and useless, so I loved how this line showed how much character development she went through. 

“I’d rather die my way than live yours.”

And my third book is Atonement by Ian McEwan, which I’ve just finished reading for school. This first quote is one that I feel Briony should really start to understand. That girl in part 1 of this book, my god… 

“It wasn’t only wickedness and scheming that made people unhappy, it was confusion and misunderstanding; above all, it was the failure to grasp the simple truth that other people are as real as you.”

This second quote – OOH THE FORESHADOWING. But also, just really relatable as a writer, but written in a very pretty way. 

“Wasn’t writing a kind of soaring, an achievable form of flight, of fancy, of the imagination?”

And can we just talk about the love between Cecelia and Robbie? They are a beautiful and pure thing, and we should really appreciate that. 

“Finally he spoke the three simple words that no amount of bad art or bad faith can every quite cheapen. She repeated them, with exactly the same slight emphasis on the second word, as though she were the one to say them first. He had no religious belief, but it was impossible not to think of an invisible presence or witness in the room, and that these words spoken aloud were like signatures on an unseen contract.”
