Snippet Sunday (#6) – Friendship

Snippet Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by my fabulous friend Samantha from Reed’s Reads and Reviews. It works like this;

  • You share a snippet of your current work in progress or whatever else you are working on. A scene, dialogue, a whole chapter, a poem – anything goes
  • Link your Snippet Sunday back at Samantha’s, and we can watch the world burn in our amazingness together
  • Ta da! Snippet Sunday complete

Snippet Sunday

Recently, we’ve been doing some creative writing at school. This piece hasn’t been edited (or named) yet, but here’s part of what I’ve got so far…

“We’ll be friends forever, won’t we?”  asked Piglet.

“Even longer,” replied Pooh.

Wearing black was a mistake. My mum was going to kill me for getting so much flour all over my shirt. I glanced over at Zoe, her face covered in cocoa dust, sleeves rolled up to her elbows as she kneaded the cookie dough. I couldn’t help but laugh at the sight.

She turned to me, eyes glinting with mirth. “Abby, this is what baking is. We’re sacrificing ourselves for the greater good of filling our stomachs.”

I snorted, trying hard to take her seriously. She brushed a hand across her face, adding a chocolate chip to the ensemble.

“Z-zoe,” I tried through my laughter. “You’ve got-”

She inspected herself in her phone screen, and let out a shriek of joy. “I look-look like a-” Tears streamed down her face as she tried to choke out her sentence through her laughter. “Like a biscuit,” she burst out.

I doubled over, unable to form words. I tried to wipe it off her face, but we were both laughing too hard to move. She stepped towards me, slipping on the floury floor –

Cut. Rewind.

Smack against the net. Again. And again. And again. I don’t think Zoe had managed to hit the tennis ball over a single time yet. Maybe I’d chosen the wrong person to practice with this weekend. I threw the ball up, hitting a brilliant (if I do say so myself) shot towards her.

Smack.

“Zoe,” I sighed. “Listen, it’s not that I don’t want to hang out with you…”

“I know, I know, I’m terrible. I’m getting better though, right?”

She served. The ball flew over my head, impossible to reach.

I was a book blogger for a while, and I now blog about every little thing in life I can think of. Bear with me while I try all these new posts out... I'm a New Zealand teen who gets angry about the world (but not angry enough for tumblr). I like to capture the world through photos and words, and read in all the moments in nz-squadbetween. I have an overwhelming desire to see every corner of the world I possibly can, and hug the people I love in all those corners. I can't do make up to save myself, and you're more likely to find me buying matching stationary than matching clothes. My nerd hobbies include a new found love of the Avengers, reading YA, watching Game of Thrones, How I Met Your Mother, and every vlogger I can find, and being the last person on the music bandwagons. I have big plans for the rest of my life, including university, teaching, travelling, and having an army of puppies. I plan to blog every second of it!

  1. Ooh I really like it! I love reading about friendship 🙂 When I first read the Pooh quote I was a bit confused and thought you had written Pooh fan fiction lol (which reminds me: I once read a really weird crossover fic between Pooh and Buffy the Vampire Slayer o__o)
