Is It Really April Already?!?

That’s right, believe it or not, March is over. We’re somehow a third of the way into 2016… What?? I actually completely missed my February wrap up because it came so soon, but I’m on top of things this month! Here’s how my month went…

Reading

I did a pitiful amount of reading this month, since I seem to be in a nearly endless reading slump. I only got four and a bit books read! Maybe that’s not too terrible, but for someone who usually reads six or seven a month, this is pretty bad.

First, I revisited my childhood and read Charlotte’s Web, and reviewed it here.  I only gave it three stars; some children’s books need to stay only for children. Next, I read The Invention of Wings, and reviewed it here.  I read Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, and reviewed it here. I gave it a terrible rating of only three stars, which is disappointing considering how much I loved the movie. Finally, I read Harry Potter and the Chamber Secrets as part of #HPReread2016. I already reviewed it the last time I read it, so I’m still trying to work out how to review it this time. The book I’m currently reading is the Prisoner of Azkaban, because I’m still running behind in the re-read! I’m just really disorganised at the moment… Book at the Beach

Challenges

You might remember at the beginning of the year when I signed up for way too many challenges. I updated you on how I was doing at the end of January, and here’s how I’m doing two months later!

The E-Book Challenge. In January, I had 5/12 complete, which was amazing. This month I haven’t done nearly as well. I’ve read Othello, for school, and Five Wounds. That only gets me up to 7/12 complete.

The Flights of Fantasy Challenge went a lot better than the e-book challenge this month. I’ve read the BFG, Charlotte’s Web, and Harry Potter, with another Harry Potter being read at the moment. That gets me up to 8/10 complete, so I think I’ll have to increase my goal at the end of next month!

Rock My TBR is still going really well! All but one of the nine books I’ve read worked for the challenge, which gets me up to 14/12. Woo hoo, one challenge completed already!!! But technically, I’m aiming for one a month, so I’ll still stick to that goal, and just see how many I get read.

Finishing the Series still doesn’t seem to be going too well… Why do I read so many standalones??  I’m getting there with the Harry Potter series,  and that’s the only books that have counted towards the challenge!

Finally, the dreaded Popsugar challenge… In January, I’d completed 8/50. Now, I’m up to …

Popsugar 2016

  • Unfamiliar culture – Five Wounds
  • YA Bestseller – The Fault In Our Stars
  • Finish in a day – BFG
  • At least 100 years older than you – Othello
  • Recommended by family – P.S. I Love You
  • Haven’t read since primary school – Charlotte’s Web
  • Oprah’s Book Club – The Invention of Wings
  • Blue cover – Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist

So that’s 16/50 complete, woo hoo! Yeah, it’s mostly just the easy ones, but I promise I’ll start on the hard ones soon

Real Life

This term at school as been a little chaotic in terms of assessments. Right now, as I’m writing this, I’m meant to be doing three different assessments that are all due in the next couple of weeks… It hasn’t been all bad though! I’ve been learning to drive, which is pretty stressful, but something I’m proud of. And most importantly, I came out as bi, which was hard but an amazing feeling 😀

How was your March? Did you get more read than me? What was your favourite book you read this month?

I was a book blogger for a while, and I now blog about every little thing in life I can think of. Bear with me while I try all these new posts out... I'm a New Zealand teen who gets angry about the world (but not angry enough for tumblr). I like to capture the world through photos and words, and read in all the moments in nz-squadbetween. I have an overwhelming desire to see every corner of the world I possibly can, and hug the people I love in all those corners. I can't do make up to save myself, and you're more likely to find me buying matching stationary than matching clothes. My nerd hobbies include a new found love of the Avengers, reading YA, watching Game of Thrones, How I Met Your Mother, and every vlogger I can find, and being the last person on the music bandwagons. I have big plans for the rest of my life, including university, teaching, travelling, and having an army of puppies. I plan to blog every second of it!

  1. Four isn’t bad at all, and I sure hope you get out of your slump soon! Remember to take breaks and don’t force yourself – it happens to everyone.

Also glad to hear that coming out went well (?) for you. I can only speak from an outsider’s perspective but it’s a difficult thing to do so it’s good to hear about it. 🙂

Plus good luck with driving! I learned to drive when I was 17ish, stopped driving for a few years and now I think I might have to relearn it again. Definitely something to be proud of!

  2. I feel you reading slumps are the worst I had a big one last year it’s so annoying. I read 6 books in March which I’m really happy about since I read some big ones (I have a post about it on my blog if you want the list) I’m actually also doing the pop sugar challenge but I must admit I’m not very dedicated haha I haven’t really read anything because of it yet.

  3. Sorry you’ve even in a reading slump! They are the bane of book lovers’ existence.. At least the challenges you’re doing look fun.

You said you gave Nick and Nora’s a terrible rating? 3 stars is a bad rating for you?? Lol We must review very differently lol.

Hope you have a better reading month in April. 🙂

  4. Ooh I’ve not done any reading challenges except my personal Goodreads challenge, but I may try picking up the Popsugar challenge from here and seeing how that goes! You seem to be doing pretty well despite the number of challenges you’ve taken on 🙂

  5. You and I both in a reading slump in March (and for me, in February too) — you are not alone! However it seems that you did better than me because I managed to read zero novels in March, haha. Hope you jump out of that reading slump this April and you read some awesome novels! 🙂

  6. I can’t believe it’s April already, either! The years go by so quickly. Soon I will be 20, and I have nothing to show for it aside from one friend at school, being one step closer to getting my learner’s permit, and hiring an algebra tutor so I can hopefully graduate high school in December.

I think your supposed reading slump is nothing compared to mine! The problem is I’ve been stuck reading 11/22/63 (which is a really LONG book covering a span of 5 years) and The Book Thief (which takes a while because I’m also reviewing it for my blog chapter-by-chapter) for quite a while. So I don’t really like cramming something else in besides, but I still finished The Paying Guests and Many Waters along the sides.

Wish you luck with your assessments!
