Top Ten All Time Favourite Books From the Last 2 Years

Unsuprisingly, this was incredibly difficult. But I managed fairly well I think, with only a little cheating 🙂 I can’t remember exactly what I read in the last 3 years, which was the original challenge, so I’ve just kept it to 2014 and 2015, since I’ve had Goodreads

  1. Two Brothers by Ben Elton. This one just had to be first. The rest aren’t in order, but this is one of the best books I’ve read possibly forever. It’s historical fiction, and it’s beautiful
  2. The Mystery of Mercy Close by Marian Keyes. I struggled to pick just one Keyes book. But Helen did it for me. A Shovel List! A list of people she wants to hit in the face with a shovel! I mean COME ON#Shovellist screenshot
  3. Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan. Yes, I can choose a whole series. How can I choose just one? I (still) have one to go, but I loved the first four
  4. The Dying of the Light by Derek Landy. I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS SERIES IS OVER D’: It was amazing. Don’t worry, the ending does wrap it all up perfectly
  5. Time Traveller’s Wife by Audrey Niffenger. Psh, I didn’t cry… Not at all… It takes a lot for me to cry, that’d just be crazy…
  6. Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell. One of my all time favourite couples. And Rowell is just spectacular in every way
  7. Game of Thrones and Clash of Kings by George R. R. Martin. It’s so detailed, I love that. I genuinely care about every single character, which is impressive when I struggle to remember all their names. I mean, just look at them! (I haven’t read that closely, so be careful of spoilers). Again, yes, I can do a series!Game-of-Thrones-Characters
  8. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Cath is just like me but older. I told you I loved Rowell, didn’t I?
  9. Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela. It was really, REALLY long, but absolutely worth it. He’s an incredible man, who did amazing things. He stayed in jail for 19 years and came out prime minister. Well, with a bit of stuff in the middle, but that’s still seriously impressive
  10. Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. I fell in love with these sisters. They were so sweet, and cute. I want to be adopted into that family

Special mentions:

  • Bloodlines series by Richelle Mead
  • Everything else by Marian Keyes
  • Landline by Rainbow Rowell (shut up, I love her okay?)

So, there are mine! What did you choose? Did you struggle and cheat just like I did? As always, send me a link, tell me your thoughts, etc etc

  1. I definitely agree with Fangirl, Eleanor & Park, and the Percy Jackson series. I really need to get around to reading Landline- it sounds different from her other books, but I’m sure it’s still fantastic! Which Rainbow Rowell book is your favorite?

  2. *punches fist in air* Another ASOIAF on this TTT! (I grouped the entire series as one book too, ahaha.) Rainbow Rowell is another popular choice, it seems. I’ve never heard of Two Brothers though, so I will check it out!

(Psst, I’d love it if you could check out my Top Ten Tuesday post!)

    1. That’s because it’s great!! I’ve watched the shoe, so I know to be careful 😛 Definitely check out Two Brothers, if you like historical fiction. I’ll look at your post 🙂

  3. I also liked Landline, though none of Rowell’s books made my top ten list.

As for Game of Thrones, don’t get too attached to any of the characters. George RR Martin likes to craft really bad things to happen to just about everyone!

      1. Just be prepared to have your heart broken when certain characters have VERY, VERY bad things happens.

I was pleasantly surprised that the big twist from book one was kept a secret until it unfolded on screen in season one.

One thing I enjoy about knowing what’s coming from reading the books is watching for clues that something BAD is going to happen.

      2. Ahh, now I’m concerned!! It’s exciting, but stressful. I remember watching the Half Blood Prince when the Inferi came out, and I was all worried, then my mum’s phone went off and distracted me, so I ended up getting a fright anyway 😛

  4. This was definitely a hard topic — so hard to choose just 10! I love Rainbow Rowell, and The Time Traveler’s Wife is one of my life-long, all-time favorites. Great list!

      1. Eh. Not really. I didn’t like the casting for Henry, and I just didn’t think it really captured the magic and tragedy of the book.

  5. Nice list! I love the Percy Jackson series, really anything Rick Riordan writes is amazing. And I’m hoping to pick up Fangirl soon! 🙂

  6. I really liked the Game of Thrones series. I listened to all of them via audiobook while driving. They are a great series with a ton of detail.
The Percy Jackson series is also a great choice.
    Thanks for sharing!

  7. This is a difficult list to make, for many of the same reasons you’ve listed. The Percy Jackson series is the only one here I’ve actually read, so it’s nice to have some more to choose from reading in the future.

    11/22/63 by Stephen King
The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling
The Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
The Mysterious Benedict Society series by Trenton Lee Stewart
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling
The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle
    Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane

I’m not listing these in any particular order, and I definitely like some a lot more than others, but that’s my list.
