To-Be-Read Jar

Okay, so I’m not exactly original in resolving to read a lot more books this year. 105 to be precise. But, like every reader, I procrastinate. I can’t read that book right now, because I just got a new one as a gift! My favourite series was on sale, I had to buy it and re-read them all!

But I have found the perfect way to deal with it, thanks to Rachel’s Reading Corner. A TBR jar!

a jar of books

Here’s how it works: you write down the names of 12 books on your TBR list. It could be ones you own, or have been on the list a while, or fit your reading challenges, or just books in general. Every month, you reach into the jar and you pull out a name. You have to read that book in that month. You could do one a month, which is what I plan to do, or two, or three, or all your books you read all year. It’s up to you!

Don’t worry, they don’t have to be that detailed. Just write them on bits of scrap paper, and stick them in a jar, or a mug, or whatever it happens to be.

What are your thoughts on this? Love it, hate it, done it before? Want to join Rachel and I? Let me know! 🙂

  1. I do kind of like this idea! I see it around a fair lot and I’m tempted to give it a go. 😉 I tend to read on release date though, so that’s not so much help. BUT OH. It’d be perfect for books I keep putting off starting. xD
Thanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!

  2. I will say that the TBR jar is something a lot of people do. I have my virtual TBR on Shelfari, and then I try to go to the oldest and read from there. I also have to keep up with to review books and then the 100 unread ones I own. I always have plenty to read ^^

    1. I think I’m just too picky, and I won’t be in the mood for all the books I own, so I go out and buy more! Which is so bad of me, I’ll get so poor! You’ve got a good tactic 🙂
